Best Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 5 (2022 Fantasy Football)

Following a high-scoring Week 4, the waiver wire is full of quality players that could provide your team starts in the coming weeks. Adding the right players could pay dividends and win your league, while missing on players could cost you a playoff appearance or championship. We’ve compiled a list of over 20 players to add from the waiver wire in your redraft leagues!

Not all these players may be available, but the general guideline I follow is under 60% rostered within normal Sleeper leagues. This should give you more than enough viable options to add to your squad and hopefully contribute in weeks to come.

Jared Goff – QB, Detroit Lions (51% rostered)

Goff & the Detroit offense has been incredibly productive this year, mostly because they have to because of their D’s terrible play. Goff is a big reason for the offensive success, as he’s averaging 22.66 fantasy points per game and is the QB5 overall through 4 weeks. If you’re in need of QB help, check if Goff is on the waiver wire.

Tyler Allgeier – RB, Atlanta Falcons (31% rostered)

Following Week 4, Cordarrelle Patterson was put on the IR with a knee injury which opened the door for Allgeier and Caleb Huntley to see an increased roll. Both backs finished with over 10 carries, but Allgeier was the more efficient runner, finishing with 11 touches for 104 yards against Cleveland. Grab Allgeier in any league available, and expect solid production for the next couple of weeks.

Mike Boone – RB, Denver Broncos (1% rostered)

With Javonte Williams sidelined for the rest of the season with an ACL injury, Mike Boone was next up and made the most of his touches (minus a drop). Even with the signing of Latavius Murry, we don’t know exactly how this backfield will shape out. If you’re in need of RB help, run to the waiver wire and grab a piece of the Denver backfield.

Corey Davis – WR, New York Jets (29% rostered)

With Zach Wilson returning to the lineup in Week 4, we saw the target breakdown change from when Joe Flacco was under center. Davis received 7 targets, making 5 catches for 74 yards and a touchdown. The trend from last year is seeming to continue, and Davis should continue to be a reliable flex play as a favorite target for Zach Wilson.

Isaiah McKenzie – WR, Buffalo Bills (43% rostered)

Before the season began, most people had McKenzie playing in a very limited role in this offense, while some others thought he would take the Cole Beasley role – the latter seems more accurate in the previous two weeks. He had 15 targets in the previous two weeks, including leaving Week 4’s game early. Even with McKenzie going to concussion protocol, the slot target for Josh Allen is worth rostering.

George Pickens – WR, Pittsburgh Steelers (54% rostered)

Any time a high pedigree rookie has a breakout game and is on the waiver wire, I always try to grab the player if I have roster space available. Pickens has had a great last two weeks, receiving 15 targets during that time and breaking 100 yards in Week 4. With Kenny Pickett likely to start at QB moving forwards, Pickens is worth a roster spot.

Gerald Everette – TE, Los Angeles Chargers (74% rostered)

I promise, this will be the last week that I include Everette in the waiver wire article. But it’s just crazy that the Tight End attached to Justin Herbert isn’t rostered in 100% of leagues. Through 4 weeks, he is the TE6 overall and has averaged over 12 points per game. Even if you’re set at TE, adding Everette could be a valuable flex play in bye weeks or due to injuries.

Tyler Conklin – TE, New York Jets (54% rostered)

I was a huge fan when Conklin got his opportunity in Minnesota last year, but never though he would have exploded like this. Going to New York, he had a red-hot start to the season as the TE8 overall while averaging 11 fantasy points per game. Even with Wilson coming back, he saw 5 targets and produced 52 yards in Week 4 which should indicate production is here to stay.
