It’s draft season, what we’ve been preparing for all summer! The way to win fantasy football leagues is by picking players that are undervalued by the community and outproduce the consensus rankings. I’ve compiled a list of 6 players that I have been targeting in every draft above ADP, as well as 10 players who I’m not quite as high on but still love at their current draft position. At the end of the season, we will revisit the rankings and see how we did! Best of luck this year!
All ADPs from FantasyPros consensus
Trey Lance – San Francisco 49ers (ADP QB13, Fantasy Analytics’ QB6)
Jimmy G staying in San Francisco doesn’t worry me, as it’s very clear he’s a backup and they’re going to ride with the second year pro they invested 3 firsts into – and who is bursting with talent. If you know me you know I’ve been drafting Trey around QB10 in almost every draft. A mixture of rushing upside, arm strength and a great system is why I’m more than comfortable punting on QB until Trey in single-QB leagues.
Travis Etienne – Jacksonville Jaguars (ADP RB18, FA’s RB15)
The only thing holding me back from moving Etienne higher is James Robinson’s presence, however he still should receive a good portion of carries and a majority of targets – most of the high value touches. And by the way, he scored 78 touchdowns in 55 games at Clemson and was an first round pick last year for a reason. A prolific pass-catcher with top 5 fantasy football RB potential, however a bad situation keeps me from ranking him higher.
Aaron Jones – Green Bay Packers (ADP RB14, FA’s RB9)
Similar to Etienne, AJ Dillon’s presence in the Packer’s backfield hinders Aaron’s upside. However, with a lack of high-caliber NFL tested talent at the WR position, Jones should get a significant share of the targets without Davonte – he averaged 6 catches per game Davonte missed. There’s a very realistic chance Jones finishes 2nd on the Packers in receptions, which should fuel a RB1 season.
Justin Jefferson – Minnesota Vikings (ADP WR2, FA’s WR1)
I understand that Justin is normally gone by the time the 6th pick comes around (at latest). If I have a pick that isn’t #1 and Jefferson’s on the board, I’m locking in the pick without hesitation. Already one of the biggest target hogs & best wide receivers in the league in an new offense ready to open up more – sounds like the fantasy football WR1.
Drake London – Atlanta Falcons (ADP WR43, FA’s WR29)
I loved London coming out of USC, and obviously the NFL thought the same way. A big body outside to complement Pitts, he should have an easier time transitioning to the NFL with his size and playstyle – watch for command a large portion of targets in a Falcon’s offense begging for difference makers. Watch his USC tape if you haven’t already.
Kenneth Walker III – Seattle Seahawks (ADP RB38, FA’s RB31)
While the injury he sustained this preseason & Seattle’s plans to utilize Penny are issues, we have to remember is Penny has never had a full NFL season healthy – nowhere near. This is one of my riskier picks, because he should yield touches earlier in the season, but as Kenneth gets used to the offense and if Penny were to get hear, this would pay big off come playoff time.
